Lombardy Region Of Italy - Italian Movie
Trips
Cities & Towns Of Lombardy
Italy:
Bergamo
This wealthy suburb north of Milan is divided into two
sections on alternating planes. Upper Bergamo -- a fortified town center
during Venetian rule -- requires a stately funicular ride to its narrow
streets of university students, medieval palazzos, churches and museums,
not to mention the incredible panoramic views over the surrounding parks
and quiet city. Lower Bergamo was designed by a popular fascist
architect, although the pedestrian-only, cobblestone streets, surrounded
by hundreds of smaller, more modern shops and cafe's on either side is
especially satisfying.

The Luzhin
Defence
Based on a book by Nabokov, a solitary Russian
chessmaster visiting Italy for one of his few challenging matches is
slowly driven to insanity by his twin obsessions for chess and a
sophisticated woman he's met.
Cremona
Modern opera and the modern violin making were both
born here in Cremona, and its Renaissance palaces and galleries along
the Po river may help you understand why. Opera composer Claudio
Monteverdi worked in Cremona, as did the father of the Stradivarius,
Antonio Stradivari. You can see some of his greatest violins, alongside
equally renowned works by Amati and Guarneri in the Palazzo Comunale and
the Stradivarius museum. You can also see one of Italy's tallest
campaniles, slightly smaller than the one at St. Peter's Cathedral in
Rome.

Violin (1998)
A slightly cursed violin, built by one of Italy's great
violin makers, is followed as it passes through a tumultuous history of
loving owners -- beginning in Italy and moving through Europe, China,
and Canada -- all set to a beautiful musical score.
Lake Como Italy:
Europe's deepest and best-loved lake, Lake Como is
surrounded by manicured gardens and orchards, with ferries connecting
the lakeside towns, each with a different character. Mussolini finally
lost his life to Italian patriots on the shore of Como. World-renowned
artists and musicians have always found material and inspiration here.

increasingly appealing forces of the darkside. Padme's home on the lake
is the beautiful Villa Balbianello, near Lenno on Lake Como.

Pizzighettone Italy:
Ruled at times by the Spanish, the French under
Napolean and Austria, Pizzighettone was blessed with an 11th century,
fortified and high-towered wall, divided down the center by a major
river. Its fortifications made it an especially appealing stronghold for
criss-crossing armies and you'll find that the museums are rich with
historical armaments, foreign and domestic. It's believed that
Pizzighettone also has the oldest campanile in Italy.

On the shore of Lake Como, Tremezzo is blessed with
lavish villas and gardens which inspired the writings of Longfellow and
the compositions of Verdi. The most lavish and colorful villa in
Tremezzo is Villa Carlotta, with miles of gardens outside and sculptures
by Antonio Canova and his contemporaries within.
