Bergamo - Italian Movie
Trips
This wealthy suburb north of Milan is divided into two
sections on alternating planes. Upper Bergamo -- a fortified town center
during Venetian rule -- requires a stately funicular ride to its narrow
streets of university students, medieval palazzos, churches and museums,
not to mention the incredible panoramic views over the surrounding parks
and quiet city. Lower Bergamo was designed by a popular fascist
architect, although the pedestrian-only, cobblestone streets, surrounded
by hundreds of smaller, more modern shops and cafe's on either side is
especially satisfying.
