Caserta - Italian Movie Trips
It's said that Caserta has the largest palace in all of
Italy, built atop a mountain, with over 1200 rooms and several
astonishing English gardens, all inspired by Versailles. The palace at
Caserta was also headquarters for allied commanders during WWII. The
German surrender to the Allies finally took place in a ceremony within
this palace. Movies Filmed On Location In Caserta Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) The Phantom Menace is the prequel providing the history of Anakin Skywalker, Luke's father, as he's discovered in a remote desert outback and begins training to be a jedi. Mainly digital production but the coronation sequences take place in Italy. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Attack of the clones is the second prequel to the original epic film, as Anakin Skywalker's jedi training is tested in battle against the strong and increasingly appealing forces of the darkside. Padme's home on the lake is the beautiful Villa Balbianello, near Lenno on Lake Como.
