Ruled at times by the Spanish, the French under Napolean and Austria, Pizzighettone was blessed with an 11th century, fortified and high-towered wall, divided down the center by a major river. Its fortifications made it an especially appealing stronghold for criss-crossing armies and you'll find that the museums are rich with historical armaments, foreign and domestic. It's believed that Pizzighettone also has the oldest campanile in Italy.
