It's said that Caserta has the largest palace in all of Italy, built atop a mountain, with over 1200 rooms and several astonishing English gardens, all inspired by Versailles. The palace at Caserta was also headquarters for allied commanders during WWII. The German surrender to the Allies finally took place in a ceremony within this palace.
