The Luzhin Defence - Italian Movie Trips

Based on a book by Nabokov, a solitary Russian chessmaster visiting Italy for one of his few challenging matches is slowly driven to insanity by his twin obsessions for chess and a sophisticated woman he's met.

Bergamo

This wealthy suburb north of Milan is divided into two sections on alternating planes. Upper Bergamo -- a fortified town center during Venetian rule -- requires a stately funicular ride to its narrow streets of university students, medieval palazzos, churches and museums, not to mention the incredible panoramic views over the surrounding parks and quiet city. Lower Bergamo was designed by a popular fascist architect, although the pedestrian-only, cobblestone streets, surrounded by hundreds of smaller, more modern shops and cafe's on either side is especially satisfying.
