The Red Violin - 1998 - Italian Movie
Trips
A slightly cursed violin, built by one of Italy's great
violin makers, is followed as it passes through a tumultuous history of
loving owners -- beginning in Italy and moving through Europe, China,
and Canada -- all set to a beautiful musical score.
Locations in Italy:
Cremona Italy:
Modern opera and the modern violin making were both
born here in Cremona, and its Renaissance palaces and galleries along
the Po river may help you understand why. Opera composer Claudio
Monteverdi worked in Cremona, as did the father of the Stradivarius,
Antonio Stradivari. You can see some of his greatest violins, alongside
equally renowned works by Amati and Guarneri in the Palazzo Comunale and
the Stradivarius museum. You can also see one of Italy's tallest
campaniles, slightly smaller than the one at St. Peter's Cathedral in
Rome.

Pizzighettone Italy:
Ruled at times by the Spanish, the French under
Napoleon and Austria, Pizzighettone was blessed with an 11th century,
fortified and high-towered wall, divided down the center by a major
river. Its fortifications made it an especially appealing stronghold for
criss-crossing armies and you'll find that the museums are rich with
historical armaments, foreign and domestic. It's believed that
Pizzighettone also has the oldest campanile in Italy.
